Fragrance Trends Of 2020

Fragrance Trends Of 2020 roses and fragrance behind

Introduction

Fragrance Trends of 2020? The year started like any other, but events of the past few months have shifted every prediction about what the year would look like. Face masks have gone from dull medical apparel to emerging fashion statement items. If one thing rings true about 2020, it’s that none of the old rules apply, least of all in the world of fragrances.
Why bother about fragrance when you’re going anywhere? Most of the world is on lockdown, working from home, and attending meetings via Zoom. Who am I smelling good for?
Yourself. In times like this, where there is no external crowd to validate our personal lifestyle choices, a new mindset and approach to fragrance are needed. That’s why we put together this piece on the fragrance trends of 2020.

ECO-FRIENDLY FRAGRANCES

Even when lockdowns are over, the movement of people will still not be as regular as it was before. With this in mind, fragrances that remind of us the outdoors while we’re stuck indoors are going to be winners for this year. The more they smell like nature, the better. Its also likely that they will be made from sustainable ingredients, so you can feel good while you use them. Scents like lemon zest, coriander, vetiver, cedar, and cypress easily fall into this category. These scents go well with evening wear.

GENERATION Z TRENDS

COVID-19 aside, 2020 is the beginning of a new decade and a new generation getting in the workforce and the consumer market – Generation Z to be precise. For this generation, diversity and sustainability are very important, and the fragrance industry is not immune to this. Genderless fragrances are on the rise, dominating the market of new releases. There are male fragrances with rose or floral notes. Likewise, there are female fragrances with hints of sandalwood, hitherto a male preserve. This generation is more open to experimentation and fragrances are no exception. The concept of loyalty to a particular perfume might become a thing of the past under this generation. They are open to using different fragrances at different times of the day, depending on their mood, the occasion. They are also more open to layering or mixing different scents to achieve something new. They’ve been the engine room behind the growing acceptance of alternate fragrances like ginger, iris, orange blossom, and oud. We’re going to see more of this as we move deeper into the new decade.

INTENSITY FRAGRANCE

Last year, a lot of the available fragrances got intense got more intense. They got deeper, richer, making already loyal users fall deeper in love with them. This year should see an amplification of this trend. One of the scents that are going to be a winner in this trend, based on last year’s success will be rose with its evergreen yet modern nature. Masculine fragrances with a retro scent are going to get increased patronage from both genders for their airy and mineral scent. Almond is great for layering scents like cherry, nuts, and wood. 2020 will see more experimentation with this scent.

SIMPLICITY FOR THE WIN

One consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic is reduced economic activity and income. As such, most income is directed at essentials. It will be more difficult to convince consumers to buy a fragrance because of its attractive packaging and fancy bottle, especially when that makes it more expensive. Simple and functional packaging is going to win this year. The simpler it is, the more affordable it is.

BREEZY SCENTS FRAGRANCE

As the weather gets warmer, scents that are airy, calming, and breezy will witness higher demand. Whether such scents are woody or beachy, as long they provide an avenue for a mental vacation as you bask in their essence are sure to win this period.

SEASIDE VIBES FRAGRANCE

One of the happiest places on earth is the beach. With its limitless landscape, it draws you in and inspires dreams of freedom and relaxed inhibitions. Its depths are unknown. The calls of distant birds are natural background music. The sand is soft under your feet. It’s one of the few near-perfect places on earth. Unfortunately, most of us won’t be getting these experiences anytime soon with the lockdown in force in most places. With that in mind, the fragrances that keep and create these memories alive are sure to trend in 2020. With scents that gyrate between happiness and mystery, each drop luminates like the ocean floors. As you apply on your body and in your homes, millions of droplets move like rolling waves, throwing everything and breaking as they hit the surfaces where they linger. The result might range from light seaside notes or vibrant fresh notes that call attention to themselves.

HOT AND SPICY FRAGRANCE

While oud and gourmand scents have been having a field day over the past few years, this year will see more opposition from opposing scents that are spicy, ranging from chili, black pepper, ginger, and cardamom. These spicy fragrances are in 2 categories – there are the hot spices like cinnamon and clove; examples of the fresh spices are ginger and cardamom. These spicy are warm and comforting embellishments to your overall wardrobe. Let’s not forget that they have a distinct sexy appeal. We’re going to see a stronger boom in their use as we move into the colder months of the year.
